Learning Diversity
Learning flourishes where diversity is valued and every student is supported to grow in their own unique way.
St Leo’s Catholic College is a fully inclusive secondary school where the Learning Diversity department supports students throughout their schooling – starting with Year 6 into Year 7 transition/orientation all the way up to the completion of the HSC. A wide range of diverse learners study on our premises, predominantly supported via in-class support and differentiation according to identified needs. All students learn together in mixed-ability classes. The Learning Diversity department work closely with students, parents, class teachers, KLA leaders, Pastoral Care Leaders, the Wellbeing team, Careers and Vocational Education – as well as out-of-school support agencies – to be able to assist all students to grow into confident learners.
Programs
Community Tutoring Program: Organised by us and run entirely by volunteers, the CTP program has been a long-established Literacy and Numeracy support program for many of our youngest students in Years 7 and 8 to boost skill and confidence levels across all learning areas.
Peer Support Program: Starting from Orientation Day, Peers Support Leaders in Year 10 will continue to work with individual students throughout Terms 2 and 3 of Year 7 to assist with organisation, social skills and confidence building as well as tips and tricks for tackling those first assessments.
Future Pathways: In collaboration with “Creating Chances” – a non-for-profit youth support organisation and St Leo’s Careers’ link, ‘Future Pathways’ this is a 2-day incursion program aimed at Year 9 students. In a safe space, our young people gain and practice valuable personal and work-related skills at an age where they often have first encounters with work experience, TAFE taster courses and/or volunteering activities.
